Ahh the Joy of Spring

Spring is in the air, and we are loving it! Spring in the maritimes can be quite damp, so while the sun is shining we are sure to make the best of it, by going for plenty of walks, and playing in the back yard and at the playground. Charlotte has perked right up from her illness last week and this week we have done an incredible amount... and it is only Wednesday. I'm not sure what the highlight of the week for her is, perhaps it was the walk around Point Pleasant Park looking for squirrels. She was so cute... "Squrr Food You!!" she kept hollarring, translation "Squirrels we have food for you". Finally some squirrels answered her calls and she was able to feed the squirrels. (I apologize, but the Paparazzi Mom forgot her camera that day). Another highlight is that on Tuesdays we've started a playtime group. It starts with free play, then snack, then gym time, then craft time, finally followed by story and songs. Wow it is a busy morning. Charlotte seemed to really enjoy it, and my hope is that it helps her develope some important social skills. The only down side, is that the morning is too long for Mike and he doesn't attend. But he did take Robbie and Colonel for a walk and that is good bonding time for them. Today we went down to the park and Charlotte walked the entire way, (it is a kilometer to the park for sure), then she continued to play for an entire hour. Not surprisingly when it was time to go, she wanted to go into the stroller. As wonderful as all of this time is, I know what she is most looking forward too. This afternoon we are going to my friend Kelly's house. Charlotte loves Kelly's son Johnny! It is all Charlotte can talk about. "Nap, Kelly and Johhny", which again means, after her nap we are going to Kelly and and Johnny's house. Charlotte is so excited. Now as for Robbie, this fresh air has also been wonderful. I am trying to time our morning walks for his morning nap. So far it has worked like a charm. He naps, I get to play with Charlotte and things seem like they are well under control. I love moments when things are going smoothly, but I'm not one to brag because I know that these smooth moments, for some reason, seem to be closely followed by chaos. I find when one thing slips, it all goes tumbling down like a deck of cards! And that tumbling seems to occur around bedtime. Robbie has, for some reason, decided that he is going to wake ever 1hr to 2hrs in the evening. Yep! That is right he wakes at least 5 times a night, and it isn't always for just a feed and back to bed. Robbie is the sweetest and most sensitive of all our kids, and he hates being alone in his crib. He loves his cuddles and his food source. I tell him, if I didn't need sleep myself I'd gladly cuddle him all night, but becoming nocturnal just doesn't seem like the solution. I am not actually complaining, because I know that things will sort themselves out. Like now, he is actually napping in his crib. (Yes I am insane by not taking a nap right now, but I have learned to function quite well with no sleep). For weeks he wouldn't nap in his crib and now we are having small successes. Just another example of things seeming to be undercontrol, this just means chaos is about to happen!

Here are the photo's, take care.

Loving spring!

It has been a bit of a worrisome week. Within a couple hours of arriving home from SK Charlotte woke up and was ill. I was hoping it was just a case of travelling, and bad food. After a couple hours of her continuing to get ill we realized our little princess had a stomach virus again. Urgh. By the morning she wasn't doing too bad, and we were managing... or so we thought. In the afternoon Charlotte got a bit worse and began to vomit some blood. Of course we headed striaght to the hospital. They explained that the blood was just a symptom of being ill, and nothing overly serious. Whew! After a couple hours in hospital with us pushing a lot of fluids Charlotte started to perk up, and we along with the doctors thought we'd passed the worst. Nope, by the time we got home she'd thrown up again. We continuted to push liquids thru the night but by the next day we ended back at hospital. We just could not keep enough liquids in her. She was dehydrated and was loosing weight. The doctors had to start an IV, draw blood, and get a urine sample... she was so brave throughout all of the poking and proding. After many, many hours in the ER Charlotte was sent home (at 4am). The doctors left the IV in, and told us to bring Charlotte back in the morning. Apparently there were no beds upstairs and they couldn't admit her to hosptial. The next morning we got more IV, and Charlotte was finally looking more like herself than she had in days. That was Thursday, today is Saturday and she is still a bit unwell, but her periods of play are getting longer and her bouts of illness less frequent. She still hasn't eaten much but seems to be able to keep her fluids down now. Lets hope that she is now finally on the mend. Of course we too are worried about Robbie, after all he has been around Charlotte and not to mention dragged into the ER 3 times. So far he's not fallen ill, but I doubt we are in the clear yet. At this point all we can do is wait.

Love to all,
Hudson's

The Jet Setters are Home

Our March Madness is now over. Mike is back into the swing of things after heading to New York with some teams, then to Chicago to see Gerry, and finally home to do some secret renovations (he painted our bedroom to surprise me).

Meanwhile Charlotte, Robbie and I headed home to Saskatchewan to visit family and friends. We had a wonderful time. The only real hiccup was a bit of trouble on the plane from Toronto to Regina. I admit sometimes my temper can be a detrement, but when people are trying to push me around while flying with two babies it comes in handy. I like to say the Fighting Irish came out in me, after all it was St. Patricks Day. To cut a long story short I was right, the airline was wrong and they have now apologized! Once landed in Regina things were great. Everyone was happy to see us, and the weather was quite cooperative. Charlotte of course LOVED her grandma, who I'm sure she remembered from December. She also got to fall in love again with her aunts, uncles and cousins. She really took a liking to Aunt Bridge and cousins Brook and Caine. I found it quite sad that she was building these wonderful relationships knowing that in a couple days we'd be leaving everyone again. Charlotte also got to experience the beginning of a prairie thaw. Imagine piles of snow, all melting on the flat plains... oh the water! We found some gigantic puddles and Charlotte couldn't be happier. I can't even count the number of times she came into the house soaking wet. What fun it must be to be a kid with a pair of rubber boots!

As for Robbie, he sure changed even in the two weeks we were away. His arms and legs are forever moving, and the stories he tells are quite something. If the first 4 months are any indication, I'd say Robbie is going to be a very social little guy. As soon as someone looks at him, he cracks the most charming and adorable grin. It is priceless! Being social, he of course was perfectly fine with all the hands that wanted to hold him, not to mention all the commotion that seems to surround us with all the people coming and going. While in Regina Robbie had his first experience swimming, he mainly sat back and just enjoyed the nice warm water, and watched his sister splash like crazy. She really has taken to swimming and now loves not only the pool, but the water slides.

I also had a great time with my family, and friends, and during this trip I decided to go out and play a little soccer with my old team. It was so much fun, and seemed to rekindle a little spark in me, I think I'm going to look for a team this summer here in Halifax. Not only did I have fun, but Charlotte got a kick out of watching her mommy play soccer. Here are a couple photos from our trip... of course I filled my camera with pictures but obviously can't share them all. Oh, and just incase you are wondering, it was very difficult to get Charlotte to look at the camera... so most photo's are of the back or side of her head!

Charlotte is 2!!

Happy Birthday to Charlotte! She is now a full fledged 2 year old!

Today we had Charlotte's birthday party, it was a super time. I planned and Easter egg hunt and both the kids and parents seemed to have a blast. It is amazing I planned this party for days, and it took the kids less than 5 minutes to uncover every egg! After that we had pizza, and cupcakes, and because I am a child at heart each cupcake was decorated as a bunny rabbit. The party ended with a visit from Hopps our neighbour's rabbit, and then the gift opening. Charlotte got piles of wonderful gifts and we thank everyone for them.

What is Charlotte like at 2?
She is still the spunky little dare devil that she was at 1, but what surpises me is that she is turning to be quite shy. If there are too many people around she turns very quiet and sticks close to me. This is not a bad thing, in fact I am glad that she is this way. However it is strange to see her so shy when you know how CRAZY she can be. Charlotte is also becoming very mature. She talks in 3-5 word sentences, which are usually commands such as "No Mommy, sit here!". Smart, yes, we definitly know that Charlotte is clever. She counts nearly to 10, knows all her shapes, says A-B-C-D then randomly throws letters at me. Colours are still a guessing game for her (which is cute) right now everything is Green. Not surprising she is athletic, Mike is already seeing a future for Charlotte as a soccer star, and she will definitly be a star if only to her family. But he says her agility and balance is very impressive, she is also a very fast runner, we have a hard time keeping up with her as she dashes around the house doing everything to avoid getting dressed. Finally she is turning into the most loving big sister. I think she has accepted her brother now. She will simply give him a kiss out of the blue, she laughs when he smiles, she brings him PeaNut when he cries... and it is only at bedtime that she gets jealous.

As for Robbie, he is officially the easiest kid to get to smile and laugh. All you have to do is look at him and he has the most charming grin. He also always seems to get the giggles when I get him naked for his bath, and if I tickle his belly that is it, he looses it. I love baby laughs, it is the sweetest sound! Robbie did well at the party and just sat back and observed the chaos. He is now strong enough for his bouncy chair and jolly jumper. I do have to be very careful though becuase Charlotte wants to help him jump in the jolly jumper. If left to her own, Robbie would be flung up to the ceiling.

Tomorrow, Charlotte, Robbie and I leave for Regina. I will see if I can get to a computer to send and update while on our trip, right now I am just hoping for the 3 of us to arrive in one piece... flying with 2 kids should be interesting! Wish us luck!

Here are just a few pictures from today.

Blogger Pains

Poor Mike... he made his first blog post and it kept crashing on him when he tried to upload photos. It wasn't his fault, seems since we've moved to the Hudson Happening blogger has been giving us a bit of a headache. For example, don't ever trust the date it says something is posted. No matter what I do the date is never correct. Anyway, what matters is that we can share our updates and usually post pictures.

Right now we are monitoring the kids. Seems they've once again, picked up some type of cold bug. Urgh! I really hope they can beat it soon, as we have Charlotte's birthday party planned for Sunday (she'll be 2!), and I'd prefer to not have to cancel it. Also a bit of cheery news, Robbie hit a milestone today, and has started to roll. He is going tummy to back, and works really hard at back to tummy. If he had more floor time, I'm sure he'd be a pro by now, but with Charlotte running around he is kind of a 'sitting duck' when he is laying down. Well that is all from here.

Here are some recent photos.
