I have developed a new talent... I can remove a splinter pretty fast these days. In less than a week, Charlotte has had 6 splinters and Robbie has had 2. I am not exaggerating. The first one was the worst, Charlotte went out on the deck without shoes on. She sliced her foot pretty good, and left in her foot was a fairly large piece of wood. Donalda (who is a nurse) had to come over and cut the splinter out, while I held Charlotte still. Later in the day I noticed that there were still two pieces of wood in the cut. This time Mike held her and I had to dig them out. It was horrible. My ears are still ringing with the sound of "Mommy Don't" and "Mommy Stop". Like I said it was horrible. I am very happy that the cut is healing lightning fast and that the other splinters were in their hands or fingers and only one required any digging. Why are we having splinter issues... old deck + play time = splinters. Now they never go out without their shoes on, and Charlotte has taken it upon herself to be the shoe police and reminds Mike everyday to wear his shoes. She also is remembering to not slide her hand along the wood, but still with how old the deck is, we are bound to get some splinters. Having said that we won't be getting any tomorrow... rain in the forcast. Too bad as I was getting accustomed to this summer weather. We've had hikes, picnics, and lots of kids play in the back yard and deck.
I thought I'd share a few little tidbits on the kids
Robbie had his 18mth check up. He is nearly 28 lbs and 35 inches.
Robbie loves to sing and honestly sings (as good as a 18mth can sing) Row Row Row your Boat, Baaa Baaa Black Sheep, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and tonight we were listening to "We are the Champions" and he started to sing "Na Na, Nannanna, Na, Hey Hey Hey, Bye Bye" Oh I wish I had video of it. Although I wouldn't be able to post it, because this evening he decided he was going to be a nudist and I couldn't keep his clothes on him, including his diaper. It was too funny to watch him figure out how to take his pants off. He kept pulling them up, up, and up higher and higher. That was until Charlotte showed him to pull them down, not up. Hmmm, thanks Charlotte. Once the pants were off his diaper lasted 20 seconds.
As for Charlotte (who now insists we call her Lottie) she goes from loving, patient, and silly to uncontrollably screaming, hitting and crying. I feel bad for her that she has these strong emotions. In so many ways she is like me and honestly I wish she wasn't cursed with my colourful moods. I hope we can teach her how to channel that passion, if you want to call it passion, into the right direction. Because I can tell you it is no fun, being that upset over things. But all in all she is beautiful, adorable, and says the darnest things. My memory can't retain all her little quips by the end of the day. One though that will probably always stick with me is as I was standing at my post (I seem to spend a lot of time at the kitchen sink, so I call it my post). I noticed things were quiet. I also remembered the best adivice I ever got... if things are quiet, somthings up and go check. So off I went. Charlotte and Robbie were under her bed and Robbie's face was smothered in body lotion. Charlotte looked at me and said "I'm making Robbie into Santa". Charlotte also amazes me with her memory. Not only was I a little surprised she remembered Santa had a white beard, but she can now repeat many of her favorite stories word for word, and she remembers that last summer I reminded her that when the fair comes back she can have Candy Floss. Lately everytime we go for a drive she looks at the fair site and says "No fair yet". Just goes to show you how amazing kids are and to never underestimate them, or think they'll forget about Candy Floss.
Last bit of "news". Although it is hardly big news. Mike and I decided to not register Charlotte in Under 4 soccer. Okay that is a lie, we did register her and last minute decided to not take her. I'm pretty sure any future in soccer won't be decided in the Under 4 division. The decision was partially because Charlotte didn't seem interested and when asked if she wanted to go, she outright said NO. She's is honestly a home body, and that is fine, I know she'll become more social once she gets into preschool and school. But the other reason was selfish. I want one more summer to just hang out. Mike and I are also home bodies and we like spending a lot of time at home. Once the kids get into sports and we are running we won't ever get our slow pace back.
