One of my favorite photos ever. These are my friend Kelly's kids, John-Micheal and Katherine. Kelly and I met because her daughter Jocelyn passed away the day after James passed away. We have formed a close friendship and to see how happy our kids are and that they are becoming such good friends brings tears of happiness to my eyes.
A quick post
Here is a quick post as I promised Mike we'd watch a movie tonight, and I am still not getting any sleep so we must start the film ASAP before I fall asleep. We have been outside ALOT lately. This is my last full summer to spend wiht the kids (every July and August wish I chose to be a teacher) so I am making the best of it. We've been at the sprinkler park, out having picnics and everyday this week we've been at the lake for Charlotte's swimming lessons. I won't go into to many details, I'll just share the photos and hope to get back onto blogger soon.

Picnic with my friend Sue and her 3 kids. It was a busy day.

Hudson-isms
What is a Hudson-ism? Well it is the type of thing that normally happens to us. The type of things that prompts my friends to say "Only to you". We have had a few of those lately. Right now I am chair ridden, I should be bed ridden with ice however I've had a Hudson-ism. I've been struggling with a hip injury for years. Trying not to make a huge deal of it, but I've been spending the last few months trying to get the hip in shape to run. Good news I've been running for about a month, I've been smart, starting slow trying not to hurt myself more, and yet I ran Sunday and ended up limping only a few hours later. So off to the physio I went, I was so sore I needed my mom to put on my sock for me. YIKES. Got to physio and was told to ice for two days and come back, they also told me since I can't really rest, I should walk with a cane. WHAT! I passed on a cane as that would only become a weapon for Robbie or Charlotte. And I left with a mission to ice as best as I could and get better. If there is a perk to a baby waking every 2 hours it means I can ice throughout the night, which is good because I have no time to ice during the day. Well this afternoon while the kids were watching TV I tried to ice which is when I realized, I'd FROSTBITTEN my hip. Not just a little bit, but an entire surface the size of my hand is frostbitten. How is that for a Hudson-ism... frostbite in July.
And my kids are not immune from these sorts of things. Who knew it could be genetic? The other day Charlotte and Robbie were running around and through trees at Billy's house. It is routine for them to go to Billy's after supper with Mike while I bath Mary-Anne. Mike said that suddenly Charlotte stopped and Robbie started to scream. You won't believe that there was a fish hook in Charlotte's shorts and in Robbie's hand!!!! How is that for a Hudson-ism they get nabbed by a fish hook in the woods! It must have come off of an animal as it was covered in fur. Needless to say the men jumped into action, they got the hook out of Charlotte's shorts, cut the fly of the hook and took Robbie to the hospital. The poor boy was in so much pain and was screaming so loudly that I almost didn't think it was him crying as they ran to the house. Mike and a neighbour took Robbie to the hospital, where he was pumped with popsicles and freezing and the hook was cut out of his hand. Mike said he was very brave, I'm glad Mike went because I would have freaked out at the cutting part. Since he has been home Robbie has been great, only complaining when I have to clean the cut.
And a Hudson-ism even can attack the littlest member of our family. We went to the beach last weekend (pre injured mom), and had a great time. It was time to head off to our next destination so I started to take stuff to the car and took Mary-Anne with me. I reapplied sunscreen to her face and decided to take her back to the beach spot in her bucket car seat. No problem. Oh sure, the entire time I was walking along the beautiful soft, dust like sand my flip flops were slinging sand into the poor baby's face! I set her down, and saw my beautiful little girl with sand up her nose, in her mouth, in her eyes and glued to her entire face on the fresh sunscreen. Here is where I flipped out. I had no fresh water, so I was running back and forth from the salt water trying to get as much sand off and out of Mary-Anne without hurting her more. These are the types of things parents feel guilty about for their entire lives.
So there you have it, the attack of the Hudson-ism. The one good thing is that since I can't walk very well I get to update the blog. Here are some recent photos. They pretty much look the same as the last few posts, sun, sand, water... We are definintly enjoying our summer.
Mary-Anne is getting so big so fast... she is now hanging out in the exersaucer and not a bouncy chair.
Picnic at the spray park.
Spray park fun!

Do you think he likes the strawberries? They were so juicy!
Charlotte seemed to like them too.

Sleep... such a precious thing.
Right now I am feeling a bit frustrated. Two nights ago I'd had it, I decided that I would switch Mary-Anne to the bottle the next evening. And that is exactly what I did, last night she got a bottle. She took it fine and went straight to sleep in her crib. This was a small success as normally we play Yo-Yo anywhere from 1 - 3 hours trying to get her in her crib. So the fact that she went on the first try was encouraging. Normally she sleeps until 12:30, which means the bulk of my sleep comes between 9 - 12:30. But last night she woke at 11:30... hmmm not so encouraging, but I nursed her and hoped she'd get another few hours in. Nope she woke(1:30), and woke(2:30), and woke(4:30), and woke(6:30), in fact it was almost worse than normal as she seemed to be uncomfortable. Which was my fear. Everyother time I've given her a bottle (during the day) she gets cranky. I suspect from a sore belly, despite my best efforts to burp her, then after a few nasty diaper changes she is happy again. This is exactly what happened last night.
So there you have it. I've tried the bottle for bed, and still got no sleep. Oh and yes we've tried Mike attempting to put her to sleep and WOW!!! You've never heard a baby scream like that, you'd think he was swinging her from her toes the way she wails. Same result with grandma. So it is me, myself and I; but that is why I am the mom, I will do what it takes. It may take another month, 2 months or (yikes!) longer but she will sleep all night and wake up happy, cheerful and refreshed one day; and so will I! Right?!?!
